The seventh annual Next Generation Luminaires™ (NGL) Solid-State Lighting Design Competition has recognized 28 commercial LED indoor and outdoor lighting products for excellence.
The winners were announced at the awards event during LIGHTFAIR® International in New York, NY, on May 3 – 6, 2015.
The 2015 Indoor NGL Competition focused on controllability and serviceability. The winners include 20 luminaires that were “Recognized,” with nine of these singled out as “Outstanding,” Selux M36 LED My White and Kju Square among them.
The judging panel selected the luminaires on the basis of color, illuminance, glare control, light distribution, dimming control, serviceability, value, and appearance. The judging session was conducted at the facilities of Intelligent Lighting Creations outside Chicago, Illinois in March 2015.
Here’s an excerpt from the winners press release:
“As LED technology and product design have evolved, NGL requirements have kept pace, becoming more demanding with each passing year. “It’s not an easy feat to achieve NGL recognition,” said DOE SolidState Lighting Program Manager Jim Brodrick. “The judges are a tough-minded bunch who look for every flaw imaginable and don’t issue their stamp of approval lightly.”
The Outstanding winners in the Indoor competition came from seven manufacturers and covered four categories. Selux Corporation received Outstanding for Dimming for its Kju decorative pendant luminaire and Outstanding for Serviceability for its M36 LED My White color-tuning luminaire.
By encouraging new designs and technologies, the Next Generation Luminaires competition aims to increase market acceptance and awareness of LEDs for general-illumination lighting.”
