Solow Project
New York City
Sheldon Solow, the founder of Solow Building Company, has been involved in the design, construction, and management of premier commercial and residential real estate in Manhattan for over 50 years. One of his notable properties is the 50-story black glass tower located at 9 West 57th Street, a 1.6 million-square-foot office tower designed by Gordon Bunshaft with stunning views of Central Park.
The building at 9 West 57th Street, completed in 1974, is undergoing an extensive interior renovation led by SOM. The renovation will include several upgrades, such as adding new lighting to enhance the original travertine lobby, constructing a new vestibule leading to the lower level, and transforming a former storage area into a fitness center. The center's core will be visible from the street through a new skylight installed within the tower’s glass-enclosed rotunda.
The designer chose the Selux M-Series M36 and M60 luminaires for the renovation due to their sleek, high-quality design, and superior optical system. These luminaire's modular design promotes innovation, flexibility, and functionality throughout the project, bringing a contemporary flair to the interior of the Solow Building. A combination of these luminaries was used in the private residence, amenity, fitness area, and movement studio.

Private Residence
Stunning illuminated lines of light follow the residential architecture to create a modern feel. Exact cut lengths, lit corners, and project specific configuration allows for flexible design within the space.
Amenity
Linear wall washers and perimeter mounted luminaires are used to accent vertical walls and artwork. The additional layer of accent lighting for vertical illumination creates a very welcoming and comfortable environment.
Fitness Area and Movement Studio
Linear lines of light are integrated into the wood slat ceiling system to provide general ambient lighting – a seamless architectural lighting solution.
