PROJECT
Use catenary lighting when you need improved visual guidance and purposeful light
Ithaca Commons
Ithaca, NY
IIthaca Commons is a pedestrian mall situated in the heart of downtown Ithaca. The redesign aimed to improve the retail environment and create a community space where people can gather in this vibrant college town. The lighting design was carefully crafted to create a warm and inviting atmosphere for shoppers, employees, and visitors alike.
In a collaborative effort with city leadership and the community, Sasaki embarked on a multi-year process to renovate this iconic space. The choice of Selux high-efficiency Discera lighting as the focal point throughout this open mall was a testament to their collective vision and commitment. Discera 6 catenary lighting created an elegant and memorable ceiling of lights, while Discera 4 lined the walkway. At night, the up-and-down street lighting provides a friendly, warm, safe atmosphere to downtown Ithaca and its community.
The project’s design is a unique fusion of urban development and natural beauty, drawing inspiration from Ithaca’s striking gorges. These elements have been seamlessly incorporated into the city’s urban fabric, establishing a vibrant, active center that is a source of pride for the community.
