Selux Lighting Solutions Specialist
8 Years at Selux
Q: How long have you been with Selux?
I’ve been with Selux for over eight years. I started in February 2017.
Q: Why did you initially come to Selux — and what’s kept you here?
My previous company, a manufacturer of interior downlights, was acquired and eventually shut down our plant. I interviewed at several lighting companies, and Selux just felt right — the products, the facility, and especially the people. That feeling has stayed with me, and it's why I'm still here today.
Q: Can you give a quick description of your current role?
As part of the Lighting Solutions team, I support project inquiries from our agents, architects, and customers. I manage new product samples and custom photometric testing, which are featured on our website. Our team also collaborates with Marketing to ensure product displays are properly set up and ready for events across the country. One highlight was our work on the 2025 LEDucation booth, which received overwhelmingly positive feedback from agents and RSMs. In addition, I assist Mark Riccio with Field Service, visiting job sites on both the East and West Coasts to help address on-site issues.
Q: What does a typical day or week look like for you?
Each day begins with a Lighting Solutions huddle to review priorities and identify any urgent tasks. We talk through obstacles that may be affecting ongoing or upcoming projects, and we coordinate as a team to resolve them efficiently.
Q: How has your role evolved since you started at Selux?
I’ve taken on a variety of responsibilities over the years, which has helped me gain a broader understanding of the company — from quoting and engineering to manufacturing and installation. That hands-on experience across departments helps me contribute more effectively and support the team wherever needed.
Q: How do you collaborate with other teams or departments?
Collaboration has become a major part of my role. Flexibility and open communication are essential — whether we're responding to a customer request, navigating a supplier issue, or troubleshooting a product in the field. We often make decisions as a team, combining everyone's input and experience to find the best solution.
Q: What do you enjoy most about working at Selux?
I really enjoy working with the team and expanding my knowledge of the high-end exterior lighting products we manufacture. The fixtures are sleek, and they help shape well-designed landscapes and workspaces.
Q: What interests you about your role or the lighting industry in general?
A: The evolution of lighting controls is particularly interesting to me — from DALI and 0–10V to DMX and Bluetooth-based systems like Casambi. It’s exciting to see how these technologies are becoming more advanced and integrated into our products.
Q: What’s your favorite part of the company culture?
The company barbecues have been great — it’s a simple but meaningful way to bring everyone together. The team behind organizing them does a fantastic job.
Q: What’s something you’ve learned at Selux that you apply outside of work?
Project organization and prioritization. Early on, I tried to jump into as many projects as possible, which helped me learn fast — but I also realized that spreading myself too thin impacted progress. I've since learned how critical it is to prioritize and manage time effectively.
Q: What are you most proud of accomplishing during your time here?
The 2025 LEDucation booth was a true team effort, from concept to installation. It was incredible to see everyone come together: Lauri Blake, Lauren G., and Karen from Marketing; AJ, Kasia, Javier, and Jannelle from Lighting Solutions; Fabian, Loren T., Dave W., and the Engineering team; Eric and his Manufacturing team; and the folks at ETC. It was an amazing project to be part of.
